Practicing Dependence on God
YWAM Value #16 is “Practice Dependence on God”. It says this, “YWAM is called to practice a life of dependence upon God for financial provision. For individuals and for any YWAM team or community, this comes primarily through HIS people (the body of Christ).
As God has been generous towards us, so we desire to be generous; giving ourselves, our time and talents to God with no expectation of renumeration (money paid through work or a service).
Sometimes I have to remind myself that we’re on our ninth year of launching into missions work with YWAM. In all these years, I still get the question, “Do they really not pay you?”
Yes, it’s true. They really don’t pay us. It is because of this value that we raise support as missionaries. Loren’s main heart behind it was so that leaders, in the mission, couldn’t use money to manipulate people.
He said this, “When you remove money, you remove a major area of control. And the spirit of control is one of the most devastating spirits to ministries.”
“And I think the Jesus way of fund raising is the key. In Luke 8:1-3 it says He had a team who supported Him. It wasn’t a fund. It wasn’t someone else doing it for Him. It was relational, between Jesus and the ones He had ministered to. He was accountable, in a sense, to them because of their giving. How did Paul get his support? Although he was a tent maker, he also followed the Jesus way, where individuals who knew him and that he had ministered to were able to give to him.”
To all of you who are on our team, please know that we pray for you, we are grateful for you, and we’ve (together) touched the lives of many around the world in partnership with our great God.
In The Spirit of Releasing Control
Many of you know that our rent was raised by $600 just before summer. We have prayerfully asked the Lord what it is that He was speaking to us.
We wondered, ‘Are we supposed to fundraise an extra $600 to cover this increase? Are you leading us toward something else?”
The best way for us to answer this question is that, one day while we were doing yard work, both Liz and I had the sense to simply pray for and bless the owners of the property. To thank God for the blessing of this place and to thank God for the opportunity to steward the home and land for the last 4 years (nearly).
It has been such a blessing.
Shortly after the yard work prayer was when we received the notice of the rent increase. We sense the Lord’s leading; that it is time for us to move on from this home. We should be able to move back to a campus dorm room (maybe two) in the month of September.
We don’t have the final confirmation for our housing, but the Lord nudged us to officially put in our 30 day notice of “Intent to Vacate” last week. So here we are, full of faith, knowing that God has us covered.
We have a blessed assurance that we are walking with great intentionality towards the full release of the long-term housing that God promised us and told us to begin believing for back in the Fall of 2019.
Our whole family is full of expectancy for what God is going to do and are ALL IN for this adventure with Him. If you haven’t heard the vision that God gave us for a house and land, here in Kona, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I’d love to share it with you

Australia
I’m so grateful for opportunities to serve around the world and partner with God in His plans for those places. On August 28th, I will travel to Perth, Australia with our two oldest; Malakai and Laila.
I will be teaching in the School of Worship at the YWAM Perth Base. From there, we travel south to Busselton. I will be holding a worship workshop in partnership with a local church.
So far we are hosting about 20 people from worship teams in the area. I’ll also lead worship at the host church for the Sunday services.
We’ll then have a couple days of connecting with local ministries; hopefully including Christian Surfers. We are filled with remarkable expectancy regarding “Messenger by the Sea”; the mini documentary that Malakai has been working on.
Prayer Requests
Thank you for walking alongside us in prayer all these years. We can honestly say that we tangibly feel those prayers. They are such a blessing to us.
Pray for our move. That it would be smooth and for the open doors of the housing that God wants us to land in; whether on campus or a property that God wants to release.
Pray for the upcoming missionary journey to Australia. Pray that God would also open my children’s eyes for people that He wants us to share the Gospel with as we travel.
Pray for the other upcoming missionary journey’s, in the fall 2025, to Northern California, Nepal, Mazatlan, and India. There will be additional prayer points for these in future updates.
Lastly, that God would get all the glory in all that we are putting our hands to.
Final Remarks
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and may the Lord give you peace. Amen. 🙏
Grace and Peace be with you in Abundance,
-Chris, Lizzi, Kai, Laila, Rhema, Moses, and Zion ♥️-
